We often wonder where competitors disappear to after winning national shows and turning pro and we don’t see them competing much afterwards. Well there are often very good reasons as with one such competitor Amy Villa-Nelson who was on the fast track turning pro at the NPC Nationals in 2006 after competing in fitness for only a year. Amy had a strong skill set with a professional dance background having competed even as a child with Bob Hope’s USO tour.

American Body Plus Radio Host Jenna Laine Mitcheson interviews Amy Villa-Nelson and catches us up to speed on where Amy Villa-Nelson is at, how she is doing, and her plans for the future.
Amy struggled through injuries in her short journey to the pro ranks and in her debut year 2007 competed at the Dallas Europa with a torn ACL. She then took a top five finish at the All Star show still nursing the ACL and other lingering injuries that plagued this over achievers short fitness history. Then pregnant in 2008 Amy was sidelined to prepare for the healthy birth of her daughter Ayden Mikayla. As a mother of newborn Ayden Mikayla having moved in 2009 to Charleston from Vegas and New York a year prior Amy was hit with more health issues suffering an intestinal blockage resulting in an emergency surgery that Amy is now recovering from. She has lost 16 lbs since that surgery that she feels has set her further back, but always driven with more intestinal fortitude than can be blocked Amy plans to get back into the gym and train for the fitness stage ASAP.
Amy during her off-stage time has also stayed involved training top competitors and doing suit design. Jenna questioned Amy on many issues relative to her training and how those she trains are advised on allocating time for routine practice, training and cardio. Tune into the audio show to get all the news directly from Amy Villa Nelson.
Amy’s goal is to return to the stage at the 2010 New York Pro, which holds a special place in her heart as it is associated with the Metropolitan NPC show that was her first show five years ago, still a short time for many. We look forward to Amy’s continued healthy, happy, successes. |
